more humor

walking for entertainment

Following up on last post.  Here is the Monty Python clip, silly walks.

Just finished watching Shaun of the Dead.

Sometimes I feel like I am walking like the Zombies in the movie, minus the blood.  Until I trip on broken pavement and fall.
Here's another clip.

And of course, Young Frankenstein is an inspiration.  Marty Feldman's Igor is as close an imitation as anything else:

MORE TIME-LAPSE

OU EST PHILLIPE

NJDVR

No, I am not talking about a digital video recorder that only records Jersey Shore and old Sopranos episodes.  I mean the NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.  I would like to open a discussion about experiences.  My views are easy to summarize:
They seem to offer little for those who have a college degree and want to stay in the same line of work.
I would guess they could provide assistance to those who need to find other work due to being unable to do the same thing after their TBI.
As far as advocacy, that does not seem to be their thing.

Experiences?

time is on my side

yes, I dig the stones, but despite hearing a great interview yesterday on NPR with a guy who wrote a new bio of Mick, they are not my subject.

In the meeting Monday night, someone put this really well, and I cannot quote them, but here is my take:

We brain injury survivors  have a different relationship with time.  It is like living in slow-motion.  Everything takes much longer to do than for "normal" people. If others do not adjust to our pace, we are left behind.  That's the only real choice.  My walk is just moving from pose to pose, like yoga.
More on this coming up.

Interesting talk on human/time relationship.

Go to around 00:11:00 for a taste if you don't have time for the whole thing.

I will be posting some youtube videos on my view of time:

Here's the first one:

jokes from John Kawie

Jane told me about this guy:
his story

Sample jokes (I found this one really funny, because my whole house is like this, although my friends and family did it for me):

He recounts how the hospital sent a team to “stroke proof” his apartment by taping down rugs and moving furniture: “They put up so many bars in my bathroom, it’s like showering in a jungle gym. I call them the Cardiovascular Accident Feng Shui Stroke Team, or the CVAFSST for short.

Acupuncture...

is used in China for just about everything.  It got me off Lamital for seizures. I find it helps my tone fro the stroke, also.  And she takes my insurance.  She also has a great massage therapist.  Actually two.

My rolfer

Emma has done so much for me.  If you are unfamiliar with rolfing, it is kind of like really deep-tissue massage.  There is another modality that is similar in a general way called structural integration, but I tried that and it had little positive effect.

Emma Randall
Every time I leave I feel 100% better.  She is in NYC at Broadway and 20th St.  There is 1-hour parking right in front, and I usually find a space quickly.

yoga classes

Stone Yoga in Teaneck is amazing and totally friendly to the disabled.  Charlotte is a real sweetheart.  There are a range of classes.  The gentle yoga is good for us:

Tonight's meeting

I enjoyed going and meeting everyone. The following posts have links to a couple things I mentioned.

Matt SANFORD, NOT Sander

Yesterday's NY Times Magazie article on brain/body remote control

A chip to control your body

This is cool!  Think it and it happens.  This is an idea I have been working on for years as an artist/animator and amateur neurologist.  Won't be long...
